Here you will find examples of unprofessional or otherwise jovial faces (Geeked) versus what we at Gooners United like to refer to as "Locked In": Stoic, nonchalant, and ready for work. It is important in life to know when to lock in, as well as know when you can let yourself go and allow yourself to appear "geeked".
In the hit Netflix series "Squid Game", you can see the difference between the main character, Seong Gi-Hun, when he is geeked versus when is is locked in. In the first season, he is expecting to play mere children's games and win a boatload of cash, hence his smiling, uncaring facial expression. His excitement and optimism put him in a state of being geeked. This is in heavy contrast to his appearance in season 2. Here, Gi-Hun has played these games before, and therefore knows all the conflict, tension, and death that comes with the squid games. Hellbent on a mission to stop the games and save as many lives as he can, he is locked in before he must embark on his quest.
Jordan Terrell Carter, better known as his rapper alias "Playboi Carti", is well known for his lyrics about drug usage. Therefore, it is no surprise that jit gets geeked from time to time. Here, Carti is seen in a picture that was taken and posted to the internet by himself. He appears quite silly and goofy in the picture, showing that he must have been geeked when he posted the photo. This is further proven when in 2024, Carti sent some men from his camp to chase after fans who were in possession of this picture. Regret over his photo and shame from it is primal evidence that Carti would not wish to reflect on moments when he was all but publicly geeked. In the second picture, Carti is seen with his eyes closed bobbing his head to his own song, "R.I.P. Fredo (Notice Me)". This is because he is about to perform the song in front of thousands of fans. Therefore, he closes his eyes and locks in, so he can feel the music and deliver an unforgettable performance for his loving fans.
This video is perhaps the de-facto example of being geeked versus being locked in. Observe as the man makes a funny face by opening his mouth, in order to make his friend laugh. A millisecond before his photo is taken, he closes his jaw in order to make a serious, non-humorous expression fitting for an ID. This instance should be studied as to show how important and timely it is to lock in.
This photo depicts a man and a woman in the middle of the desert at a chain-link fence. The woman in the sky looks incredibly composed and knows exactly what they are doing (Locked In). They are floating over the fence like it's no big deal. Meanwhile, the person on the ground is geeked, totally amazed at the woman levitating over the fence. In conclusion, the woman has trained her mind to levitate; the other is caught, geeked out watching the woman levitate. A prime example of geeked vs locked in.
