More and more, it is becoming commonplace to abbreviate words and phrases into one-letter or multi-letter acronyms. This trend was pioneered in the age of the internet, when typing became an extremely popular way to send messages. Whether on a keyboard or a touch screen, abbreviating you to "u" or sending "lol" to indicate laughter are convenient for users when texting, posting, or commenting to their peers.
New abbreviations are constant, but recently members of Gen Z and other chronically online individuals have taken this trend to the next level. Nowadays, the goal of abbreviations is to shorten the entire sentence. Combine this with the trend of chaging words to end in "uzz", and people are changing how we view language in the 21st century. A common example is "ts pmo icl". One might quickly comment these eight letters whenever they see a post that irritates them, as the phrase stands for "This shit pisses me off, I can't lie". Consider the following examples:
Each of these memes represent how modern language is evolving to be as simplistic as possible. Whether it is removing almost all of the letters in a word, or replacing almost every letter with the same suffix, the trend is clearly going in the same way. People enjoy trying their hardest to make their memes indecipherable, and commenters love trying to extract every ounce of meaning they can out of these almost hieroglyphic images. What do you think about these types of images, and are you a fan of their absurdity or are you becoming annoyed by their ever-staying presence in youth culture?
